Slip Dress | MS 01 | FREE sewing patterns

In this video, I will guide you through drafting a Slip Dress pattern based on a basic block. A classic spaghetti-strap dress that never goes out of style. The dress falls naturally without waist shaping, suits most body types, and flatters the figure in a very gentle way.

At the same time, I have uploaded a free sewing patterns by size (00-32) on my website so you can download it and sew right away. However, this pattern is drafted using an industrial standard size chart, so you will still need a small adjustment step to make it fit your own measurements better.

In reality, each body has different proportions. When you understand how to draft a pattern using your own measurements, you will be able to control the garment’s shape and fit, and apply the same principle to many other designs.

If you want to go beyond simply sewing from ready-made patterns, and truly understand the foundation of pattern drafting so you can confidently design for yourself, my book will guide you through that entire foundation in a clear and systematic way.

This pattern is drafted using the method from my Drafting Pattern eBook.

IMPORTANT SEWING TIPS

1. Pre-wash the fabric:

          To pre shrink

To wash out dirt and chemicals from the production process.

2. Seam allowances aren't shown on the pattern pieces. Your must add seam allowance is 1/2” (1.27cm) and hem allowance is 1” (2.54 cm).

3.  Use non-stretch or 2-way stretch fabric (slight stretch) and 1m5 wide fabric

4. Sewing in a straight line or getting an accurate seam allowance. Sometimes that can be hard, especially when you are beginning to sew. Using a magnetic seam guide makes sewing in a straight line and having an accurate seam allowance easy!

BODY MEASUREMENTS

PRINTING

Print the pattern with 100% scale. The first page display a square measuring 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm) to ensure that the scaling of your printer is correct. Assemble pattern sheets to one pattern sheet: tape the pieces together, matching the number and then extend the line drawing to the end of the pages. DO NOT overlap sheets of paper
